Library

The ICAR-IISR library is the information backbone of the Sugarcane Research and Development. The Library acts as a repository of literature and provides latest scientific information on sugarcane. Library extends its services to users of students, sugarcane researchers and development workers from all over the country.

Resources

The Institute library has rich collection of literature on various aspects of agricultural research especially on sugarcane and sugar industry. It has some rare books, monographs on sugarcane/sugar crops ranging from cultivation, improvement, protection, harvesting and post-harvest management. The library has built up a good facility in terms of research journals (Indian and foreign), annual reviews, books, reports, thesis, proceedings etc., in relation to sugarcane agriculture and sugar processing. Institute library also acquire books/periodical publications and non-conventional literatures from Hindi literature and other monthly magazines. The library has collection of 7,655 books and 397 periodicals comprising of about 18,100 volumes.

Library Automation

KOHA the open source library software was installed for automation of library services. Annual Reports andother key publications of the Institute such as technical bulletins and extension brochures are available in digitized form. Digital library of the Institute may be accessed through the Internet. Library provides CD-ROM database search, retrieval, photocopying and scanning services to all end users.

Information and Reference Services

Scientists are provided with the facility of on line search of journals on agriculture and allied subjects through ICAR-Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA). On J-Gate, CeRA website www.jgateplus.com. online journals and e-books may be accessed.

Exchange Services

The library continued exchange relationship and resource sharing with leading national and international research institutes and development organizations. To keep abreast of the activities of the Institute, the library sent the ICAR-IISR Annual Reports and IISR Newsletters to various Institutions and organizations including Universities, State Cane departments, sugar mill officers, jaggery entrepreneurs and sugarcane farmers vis a vis publication such as Annual Report, Newsletter and Research Bulletin received from Indian and Foreign Institutes are maintained
