10 days National Training Programme
A large number of sugar complexes are coming up due to the liberalization and
introduction of new sugar policy by the Government. Therefore, sugarcane acreage
per sugar mill is declining. For producing a large quantity of sugarcane to run
the mills to their full capacity, there are two options, either to increase the
sugarcane production vertically or increase area under sugarcane. The
possibility to second option is limited as area under agriculture is decreasing
day by day. The only option left therefore, is to increase the production
vertically by the use of innovative technologies. However, effective use of
technologies largely depends on the knowledge and motivation of the personnel
engaged in the cane development activities. They must be made aware about the
new technologies so that in turn they can train and help the sugarcane growers
for effective utilization of innovative technologies. Hence, it is essential
that the cane development personnel working in a sugar mill be well-equipped
with the latest technical know-how in sugarcane cultivation.
Besides, emphasis should also be given on varietal planning, maturity survey, harvesting and other related activities for ensuring sufficient quantity of good quality sugarcane to maintain desired level of sugar recovery throughout the crushing season. Keeping these points in view, Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow organises training on Sugarcane Management & Development for cane development personnel of sugar industry from July 1 to 15 every year.
