National Service Scheme Plantation Campaign with the Theme “Ek Ped MaaKeNaam” Plant4Mother Campaign

On 15 August 2024, coinciding with the celebration of India's Independence Day, the National Service Scheme (NSS) cell of IISR Lucknow Hub, IARI Mega University, ICAR, successfully organized a significant environmental awareness event aimed at fostering social consciousness about environmental conservation. This meticulously planned event was not only a tribute to Mother Nature but also underscored the NSS unit's dedication to promoting environmental stewardship within the community.

The event commenced with a spirited march drive, which was inaugurated by the Director of IISR. The Director led the march alongside students, faculty, and staff, walking through the campus with banners and holding slogans to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our natural environment. Held on the day when the country celebrates its independence, the march served as a dual reminder: of our collective responsibility to protect the planet and of the crucial need for environmental conservation and afforestation in a free and prosperous nation.

Following the march, the participants engaged in a plantation campaign, which was the highlight of the event. The campaign centred around the theme "Ek Ped MaaKeNaam," an initiative inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. The Director of IISR, along with the students, faculty, and staff, planted saplings with great enthusiasm, symbolizing their commitment in nurturing both nature and the values instilled by their mothers.

The plantation took place at two locations: the Guest House of the IISR Campus and near the Boys Hostel in Ikshupuri Colony. Approximately 40 saplings were planted, with each participant pledging to continue their efforts in environmental conservation and to inspire others to do the same. The event concluded with a collective pledge by all attendees, reaffirming their commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.

By organizing this event on Independence Day, with the active participation of the Director, the NSS unit not only raised awareness but also highlighted the connection between the nation's freedom and the responsibility to safeguard its natural heritage, motivating the community to take tangible actions toward environmental sustainability. The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Anita Sawnani, NSS Coordinator, IARI Mega University, Lucknow Hub.
