Achievements (Extension and Training)
Integrated Communication Strategy: Integrated Communication Strategy (ICS) Model was developed and implemented to market the IISR technology among clientele groups. This ICS model depicts segmentation of clientele groups and media mix strategy for each group. At the same time the activities were identified to achieve targeted objectives mentioned under the model. ICS model was implemented in sugar mill zone areas and perceptible change in knowledge level of development personnel and farmers was achieved, at the same time adoption of sugarcane technology by the cane growers enhanced. |
Factors of different characteristics viz; biophysical, technological and developmental in low cane productivity were identified and interrelationship among these factors was established. |
Probable reasons of varied nature was identified for reduction in sugarcane acreage in some parts of the country viz., market problems (cane supply, transportation and delayed payments), crop nature (long duration, big time gap between investment and return, labor intensive etc.), socio-economic factors (preference for short duration crop, small land holding, labor scarcity etc.) and the high return and market availability for other high value crop like menthe. These factors are having dynamic interrelationship and contributed significantly towards reduction in sugarcane acreage in the area surveyed. |
An attitude scale was developed by following standard steps for development of attitude scale viz., item collection, editing of items, obtaining judges opinion, final selection of items, reliability and validity test of scale. |
A model of entrepreneurship in sugarcane was developed.Entrepreneurial ability assessment schedule comprising 10 parameters/traits of Entrepreneur behaviour (EB) viz., risk taking, innovativeness, hope of success, persuasability, manageability, self confidence, knowledgeability, persistence, use of feedback, achievement motivation was also developed. |
Public-Private-Farmer Partnership (PPFP) model in sugarcane to double farmers’ income was developed. The model depicts the participating partners, their respective role with contributory resources and collaborative mechanism. |
Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav
Introduction: An innovative extension programme “MeraGaonMeraGaurav” is being implemented by the Institute to promote the direct interface of scientists with the farmers to hasten the lab to land process. The major objective of this programme is to provide farmers and rural dwellers with required information, knowledge and advisories in sugarcane and other enterprises on regular basis by adopting villages. Twelve teams, each comprising 4-5 scientists of different specializations are constituted at the Institute level. Each team adopted 5 villages thus a total of 60 villages are being adopted by the institute under this scheme and each team visit adopted villages on quarterly basis to interact with the farmers.
Seed Cane production in farmers’ fields
Out reach programme on healthy sugarcane seed production and multiplication is being implemented in farmers’ fields Uttar Pradesh. Every year about 1000-1500 tonne of seed cane is being produced, and farmers are earning additional profit, at the same time it addressed the unavailability of healthy seed material of improved varieties to a great extent.
Effective linkages with stakeholders
The Institute has developed a five-pronged strategy to strengthen its liaison and collaboration activities. As a part of strategy, collaboration with
(i) International research organizations
(ii) National research organizations like ICAR/CSIR Institutes, Central Line Departments
(iii) Collaboration with state level research organizations such as SAUs, State Line Departments and federations, etc.,
(iv) Collaboration with private sector such as sugar mills, etc.
(v) Collaboration with local Institutes/organizations at Lucknow have been strengthened. Under its multi-pronged strategy, IISR has developed linkages with various agencies at national and international level.
Linkages with State Line Departments including Cane Departments
Effective linkages with U.P. Sugarcane Department and Bihar Sugarcane Departments have been established. IT based Information Network (SIS) of U.P. Sugarcane Department was assessed. Similarly, the Institute has also strengthened its ties with other lime departments like Department of Agriculture and Science and Technology.
Linkages with sugar mills
The Institute has prioritized its extension activities to be disseminated through sugar mills. For this, the Institute regularly conducts interface meetings with sugar mills to disseminate its technologies as well as to get feedback for fine tuning its research programmes.
ICAR-IISR initiative for doubling farmers’ income: Public Private Partnership Model
To harness the potential of sugaracne sector towards doubling farmers’ income, recently ICAR-IISR has signed an Memorandum of Understanding with DCM Shriram Limited (DSL), New Delhi for implementing a joint project in command areas of 4 sugar mills owned by DSL. Under this model the Institute has assessed the existing agri-production system and income level of farmers in the project area and accordingly blue print of required interventions in sugarcane based production systems and other enterprises was developed, which in due course of time will be introduced in the project area with logistic and financial support of DSL group. The MoU was signed on August 19, 2017 in ICAR-IISR Lukcnow.
