Technologies developed by the Division of Agricultural Engineering

Three rows sugarcane cutter-planter (ground wheel)

Three-row sugarcane cutter planter (ground wheel driven) was developed for planting of sugarcane which performs all operations involved in cane planting at a spacing of 75 cm. It has effective capacity of planting of one ha in 3.5 to 4 hours, and saves approximately 70% cost of planting operation.

PTO driven adjustable cane planter

Two-row sugarcane cutter planter (PTO driven) was developed for planting of sugarcane at varied spacing viz. 1.0, 1.2 & 1.5 m for planting of cane in furrows. This has been developed especially for tropical belt. It can plant one hectare in 3-4 hours. The cost of operation is almost half of the conventional planting.

Paired row sugarcane cutter planter

Paired row sugarcane cutter-planter, PTO driven, was developed for planting of sugarcane under paired row geometry (30 cm spacing). The subsequent spacing between the paired rows could be varied. It has effective capacity of planting of one ha in 4-5 hours, and saves approx. 60% cost of planting operation.

Trench Planter

A trench of about 25-30 cm deep is made by this planter. Two rows cane at 30 cm apart are placed at the bottom of the trench. Fertilizer and insecticide are dispensed. Cane setts are covered with the soil. Sub-surface lateral for drip irrigation system is also laid. All the above operations are carried out in a single pass. It can cover one hectare in 3-4 hours depending upon plot size. The cost of operation is one third of the conventional planting

RBS Cane planter

Raised bed seeder-cum-sugarcane cutter planter has been developed to plant two rows of sugarcane in furrows and drill two rows of wheat as companion crop on the main raised beds. It has effective capacity of 0.20-0.25 ha/h and saves approximately 60% of the cost of operation.

Raised Bed Seeder (RBS)

Raised bed seeder was developed for making three raised beds (2 full beds + 2 half beds)-for sowing of wheat simultaneously at a spacing of 17 cm, and three furrows at a spacing of 75 cm- for planting of sugarcane as and when required. It has an effective capacity of 0.35-0.40 ha/h.

Ratoon Management Device

Ratoon management device was developed which executes all the operations involved in management of ratoon crop such as stubble shaving, deep tilling, off-barring, placing manure, fertilizer/bio-agents, chemicals in liquid form and earthing up operations in a single pass of operation. It has capacity of 0.35-0.40 ha/hr and saves 60% of the cost of operation.

Plant Residue Shredder

This machine has been developed for in-situ shredding of dry leaves of the sugarcane in the field. Stubble shaving can also be performed simultaneously

RMD with discs for wide spaced

This machine has been developed for stubble shaving and fertilizer application in sugarcane ratoon for widely spaced crop. It covers single row and apply fertilizer at both side of the row. Subsequent fertilizer application could be done without disturbing the trash used for trash mulching. The equipment is to be supplied to NIASM, Malegaon, Baramati (Maharashtra) for its further trial.

Sugarcane Detrasher

A power operated detrasher was developed for removal of green top as well as dry trash from the harvested sugarcane stalks. The output of the detrasher was 2.4 t/h for feeding of 2-3 cane stalks at a time with trash removal efficiency of 77.5 to 94.5%.
